Background on New Hope Ministries
New Hope Ministries is a very special place to worship, to learn from, to pray with, and to simply glean positive energy from. These two sisters Kim Williams Gegner and Alicia Williams Clark are quite incredible as they run a school and church ministry with such limited resources except their desire to uphold their parent’s legacy. I was called to meet them on Mother’s Day 2022, when looking for a place to go to for Mother's Day dinner and their Brunch came up in the Google search. As Pastor Kim stated, they feed people. Their Mother’s Day Brunch was truly a feast for only $25 and I invited my family to join me. Most of them came. We attended their church service and then went downstairs to their banquet room, and enjoyed a very tasty Mother’s Day Buffet that included prime rib and salmon. Their mom was a retired caterer and big brother ran a restaurant, named in her honor. From that day forward, I kind of became a member of their ministry so her message truly spoke to me. What truly impressed me was their worship team called Chosen Few. Their voices are absolutely anointed by God Himself. I began with attending Sunday School on zoom with them and Hanah and I would go to service at 11 at least twice a month and we attended a number of outside performance ventures with them as well. Kim has three beautiful daughters who were currently all in college. Actually the youngest Kenya, like Hanah, just finished her freshmen year in college on the deans list and the oldest finished Eastern last year and her middle girl Imani is finishing Drexel this year. I can't really explain it but as sweet as all of the young ladies were to me, I wasn't sure Hanah felt the same sweet energy. My prayer was that Hanah and Simone would worship there with me. They promised an opportunity for Hanah to do praise dance but it never happened. With the encouragement from her Aunt Paulette, Hanah started dancing with Mt. Zion and her heart went to Mt. Zion. I had to encourage her dance at Mt. Zion because prior to the Pandemic, Abba made it clear to me that Hanah's worship to Him was her liturgical dance. This is why I was a bit hard on her about her hair when dancing and caring for her dance wear as sacred wardrobe. At that point, I stopped going in person at New Hope but did watch faithfully online. I always asked YAH why does He want me there. I loved their spirit but why am I there? My heart is a Sabbath Keeper and Torah keeper and they do not follow either. So, perhaps it is to open their hearts to the true Sabbath, which they do glean from my posts and I did share my recent slide show on Shavuot with Pastor Kim, whom she and I had a beautiful conversation on because she never knew Jesus fulfilled each so called Jewish Feast Day. So perhaps, I am to teach them about the gift of Torah. I mean their congregation can be counted on two hands for the most part. I love their trauma ministry, which Pastor Kim just took upon its leadership in September. Pastor Kim's mother passed last October and Simone and Hanah joined me to attend her funeral. It was truly a beautiful celebration of Life. Anyway, let me focus on the message she posted above. My take aways from Pastor Kim's message are as follows:
My Reflections
“There are no spectators in the house of God”. This is a message that Abba YAHUAH wants me to hear. I even stopped paying my tithes last March and can’t seem to get back in the swing of things. I know they desperately need my tithes. More important it is an expectation from The Most High that I do so in obedience. So please pray for me to do better. Also, I am a retired educator with a wealth of experience to share but I do not help with their school or their church. I just receive and do not give to them at all.
“It's an expectation that we are here to create disciples- PERIOD!” Well, God made it clear to me to begin with my own family first. So I tend to target Camaron and Carter but I can do better than what I have been doing and I will. I pray for Ruth but I do not bother her about going to church or even teaching her. For my daughter, I have to demonstrate the Light of Christ to her. I guess its the same for all of my children. They need to see my Matriarchal mother Asenath and Clara in me.
"Its not about doing programs"and she is right, they are very good at that. This message I say is for Paulette, who too is great at designing interesting programs for Pure In Heart but will the girls really become disciples and understand their need for salvation? I do not know but this is truly an important take away from Pastor Kim, whom I believe received from God.
“The Holy Spirit Sees and Knows Everything” - that message is for my sister Viola. There is nothing we do nor nothing we need that God is not aware of. We just have to truly trust Him. So we must ask Him to help us with our own needs as we pray for him to help us with our kid’s needs. Even as a newcomer to Christ, you can still encourage the heart of those who could use a word of wisdom. Have you considered participating in their Mt. Zion's Wednesday program with Carter. Doing so just may be the action that will bring Carter to Christ too.
“Do not be afraid to do what God asks you to do or go where God wants you to go.” - that message is for my Hanah, who truly fears stepping out in faith to attend one of the greatest HBCU in this nation. Everyone knows Hanah's journey for age 9 to 19, truly knows Hanah deserves the honor of being a graduate of Howard University in a field where she could easily earn six figures before her 24th birthday but most importantly she will help save lives and knowing her will discover more about defeating cancer cells bringing so much more to Howard's crown, than Howard can give to her. Yet, I can guarantee that for her wherever she goes or graduate from. Like god mom’s sister said, Hanah has always been in a PWI (Predominate White Institution). The gift of an HBCUs like Howard is that the cream of the crop are nurtured to be even greater. Once she finds her tribe, she will soar in an HBCU.
“Stop seeking human validation. God is seeking a heart that wants to serve. Why me, because you are called to do it.” - I thought of both Ruthie and Naomi with this one. God does not call you to come when you feel like going or do when you feel like doing. God has an expectation for your obedience not to humans but to Him. You only get to know what He wants of you when you put him first each morning and ask Him what can I do to bless you, God?
“Trauma Healing Ministry is one that they are now preparing their young people to do and carry out to their campuses” - Simone and her tribe would be great as trauma healers. So would Natalee, Ruth, and myself too.
"Sometimes Mission is close up in your face" - This message is for Ruth. just being present can be your calling from God. Your very absent from family photos speaks volumes of your need to be present, be a part, be on time, just your presence can bring joy in the heart of those who love and need you to be there.
"Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet," - This is for Digna in particularly whose hand are too full now to serve physically in ministry but her sacrifices of prayer can make a difference. I remember her once asking what can I do from her and Ruth answered, Pray for us! I know that was God within Ruth speaking to Digna. We need your prayers.
“Jesus never left Palestine”. That message is for Pastor Kim who seeks to be like Jesus but is preaching about Global partnerships. Yet when her daughter's performance was put on hold because the students at Drexel were protesting the genocide, her prayer was that Imani gets to perform from her hard labor but that was the perfect opportunity to stay in Palestine but bless globally by supporting the protesting students.
“ We must be the light” - that message is particularly for me and for all of us. Light reveals God and darkness conceals God. I must focus on being the light in this darkened world.
